"It rainbow spirals round and round it trembles and explodes"

The 41-year time bind of the Europe 72 tour is arriving now.

I have lost my mind, but I hope I never find it again.

Tonight I bought a stone skull and a portrait of Beethoven and cranked 4/8/72 as loud as I could, and drove through my city blasting the spirit of the ancestors and praying for harmonic resonance and the I saw The Light -

As I crossed the railroad tracks, the amazing pulse of forward motion and growth that happens at the end of Dark Star suddenly took shape in the night, and beside me was a train headed north, and the headlight was shining like a beam of pure soul energy through the prism of time.

As the music soared, I realized that Jerry was still right here with us, and he MADE IT - he used to sing

"I wish I was a headlight on a northbound train"

So with Beethoven in the back seat, a stone skull in my hand, and 4/8/72 Dark Star crashing as loud as the sea through my open windows, I waved and called out to Jerry Garcia's undying and immortal spirit, shining now from the headlight of every northbound train.

Got Doses?

Seriously though, is it safe to say that most every Orchestra performing today is a "cover band?" :-)

One of my favorite comments about Garcia:

"Jerry is the light at the end of the tunnel."
